The Meetings and Incentives Tourism (MICE) sector in Peru has grown steadily in recent years, becoming a key pillar for the country’s economy and development.
In 2022, Peru reported 48 events (and surely there are many unregistered) to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), reaching the 43rd position worldwide and 8th in Latin America.
Cities like Lima, Cusco, Puerto Maldonado, Tarapoto, and Arequipa have successfully hosted events, showcasing the diversity and cultural richness we offer. While Lima still faces infrastructure, security, and organization challenges, it undoubtedly has the potential and resources to compete internationally.
Organizations like Promperú and the Buró de Convenciones de Lima do an outstanding—though sometimes underappreciated—job promoting our country as a prime event destination. They invest time and money (often working with limited budgets) to promote the country as a prime MICE destination.
For the past three years, at KMJK - Productora de Eventos, we have been closely observing this sector with great interest. Since then, we’ve been blessed to collaborate by offering services to international clients (companies and organizations that organize conferences, seminars, and incentive trips). We’ve contributed in areas such as audiovisuals, branding, staffing, catering, and transportation.
We take great pride in contributing to attracting international events and aim to provide comprehensive management that benefits our clients through efficient negotiations with suppliers (this deserves a separate post).
It is essential to recognize and commend the efforts of DMCs, hotels, and tour operators who, along with MINCETUR Perú and PromPerú, are positioning Peru as a top destination for MICE tourism. With their continued support, we aspire to regain our prestigious spot among the top three destinations in the region, as we did before the pandemic.
In addition to our world-renowned cuisine, Peru offers unmatched service that guarantees memorable experiences for event participants. Our rich culture, breathtaking historical sites, and vibrant heritage provide unique opportunities for visitors to explore and share unforgettable moments.
For now, @KMJK continues to work on training our team and recruiting production staff with language skills to provide even more fluid and high-quality service.
Collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to overcoming challenges and maximizing our strengths. Together, we can position Peru as a hub for MICE tourism in Latin America!
